Certificates Express can acquire the following certificates from the province of Nova Scotia:

• Short Form Birth Certificates
• Long Form Birth Certificates
• Certified Copy of a Birth Certificate

Who Can Apply for a Birth Certificate?

Birth Certificates may be released to:

• The person whose birth is registered
• A person whose name appears as a parent on the registration of the birth, if the person whose birth is registered is 18 years of age or younger
• A guardian of the person whose birth is registered, if the person whose birth is registered is 18 years of age or younger (custodial guardians must provide a copy of guardianship papers)
• A person who has written authorization from a person described above.

Service Options:

Regular Service

• Choose this option to receive your certificate within the province's regular delivery time of 10 days.
• Once we have received your completed application, we will process it for you using the standard government procedure.
• In all cases, your birth certificate will be sent by Express Post/Courier to you as soon as the province has completed processing.
• Processing times based on proof of urgency.

Urgent Service

• Urgent service on the part of Certificates Express is available for an additional fee.
• Certificate will be sent to Nova Scotia government office within 24 hours.
• In all cases, your birth certificate will be sent by Express Post/Courier to you as soon as the province has completed processing.
• Processing times based on proof of urgency.

Additional Information:

• Processing time for Nova Scotia documents: Approximately 10 days (does not include delivery)
